Students Taking Academic Responsiblity
The STAR Program at Plymouth Center School is a special education program designed to meet the needs of kindergarten through fifth grade special education students who demonstrate emotional and behavioral challenges. The STAR classroom provides a more structured learning environment and smaller teacher to student ratio. The STAR program utilizes behavior intervention plans, behavior charts and positive reinforcement to assist students with improving their behavior in the classroom.
The STAR Program addresses the academic needs of identified students in small group or individualized instruction. The special education teacher in the STAR classroom consults regularly with the general education teachers to address the students' behavioral and academic needs.
Students identified for the program demonstrate significant and ongoing behavioral difficulties that interfere with the student's ability to learn and/or to develop appropriate relationships with peers and teachers.
Students in the STAR Program often have been identified with one of the following disabilities; Serious Emotional Disturbance, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Intellectual Disability, or Other Health Impairments.
